Street Children Rehabilitation Centre
In the effort to care and support for vulnerable communities Mission For All (MIFA) observed that there were many children on the streets of Kampala and other towns living in horrible life conditions. Based on this background MIFA established the Ebenezer Street Children’s Rehabilitation Centre 2001 at Namasumbi, Mukono District where street children both girls and boys are rehabilitated and later reconciled with their families. The aim is to assist them adjust to family life through provision of a conducive home environment. The children attend school during the rehabilitation process.
We build our care plan on four principles below:
- Rescue a street involved life (child).
- Redevelop it consciously in a residential home.
- Reconcile it with any of the identified relatives.
- Reunite with the family
The Centre has rescued and supported close to 500 former street involved children and many of them are gainfully employed in various sectors.
Success Story
My name is Tamale Joshua aged 14 yrs. Am in primary seven. My mother left me in town when I was 8 years. I have learnt and stayed in children homes since primary two. I think my mother and father died and I was left alone. I have lived on streets for six years without parents. I used to eat on rubbish pits, selling scrap for money to eat. I slept on verandas and we were beaten by police at night.
We used to go to Calvary Chapel to eat food and to get new friends. One day, a man came and introduced himself as Uncle Peter and requested to take me to Ebenezer Home to which I agreed. Now I have him as my father and other new Aunties at the Rehabilitation Centre. At the Home I have got friends, a warm bed and free food. I thank MIFA for paying my school fees and I hope to reach University and become a doctor.
